GIS and Spatial Data Management

GIS and Spatial Data Management

GdB develops and customizes applications to manage spatial data for our clients. We use multiple methods of data collection, including custom software and ArcGIS Online services. GdB recognizes the value in using GIS to manage all types of spatial data. As the industry has become more digital, the need to manage this data requires the technical skill and innovation that we provide.

For over six years, GdB have been ESRI Business Partners, working closely with ESRI to provide the most streamlined and modern solutions to our clients. Taking part in the ESRI User Conference every year in San Diego, the GIS specialist team at GdB are up to date on the latest and greatest methods and tools. As Online Specialists, we are uniquely qualified to provide client solutions that work both in local environments and in the web. Mobile data collection, simultaneous editing for field and office staff, cloud storage applications and tools work on most devices.

Port Washington Sewer GIS

Port Washington, NY

The GdB team was contracted to design and build a sewer infrastructure GIS for all the Port Washington Water Pollution Control District. Working from over 2,000 scanned drawing files, we catalogued and digitized singular drawing sheets and contract drawing set PDFs files for the entire district. We also scanned, catalogued, and digitized over 6,500 sewer house connection cards.

GdB leveraged ArcGIS Online (AGOL) web-based GIS platform to build the District a web app for the employees to access and update their GIS data. Users of the app can view essential components and documents related to the entirety of the District’s sanitary sewer system. The application permits users the ability to view feature related contracts, images and historical as-builts. Users can also identify features, print, filter map layers, and measure.

LUCA Census GIS

Nassau County, NY

The GdB team was contracted by Nassau County Department of Public Works to update the Census Bureau’s “Map Address File” (MAF) for the whole of Nassau County. The purpose of this project was to update known addresses in the county before the 2020 census goes out. This was done to ensure the Census Bureau does not miss any new addresses when they send out the census mailer.

GdB’s responsibility was to review various county-provided address lists, identify discrepancies, and provide back updated address files and GIS datasets to the County and Census Bureau. GdB received the census MAF, the county’s GIS address points, DMV addresses, county parcel data, and various other address lists and datasets. All data was geocoded if necessary and so it could be spatially analyzed alongside other GIS datasets. GdB spent four months comparing address datasets in GIS to identify areas of concern to field verify in later phases. The focus was on picking up new housing developments such as apartment buildings and condominium complexes, but many new addresses were picked up in more typical residential areas as well.

Suffolk County Sewer GIS

Suffolk County, NY

The GdB team was contracted to design and build a sewer infrastructure GIS for all Sewer Districts of Suffolk County, NY. Working from over 10,000 scanned drawing files, we combined the singular drawing sheets into PDF files for each contract.

Each individual sheet then had an outline drawn in GIS and was linked to the PDF for hyperlinking. GdB wrote and used custom software to rapidly enter attribute data from those drawing sheets. Collected data included, but was not limited to, rim elevations, pipe material, pipe slope, diameter, and inverts. We also used our custom software to run quality control passes during and after the production work.

Since the initial data entry phase, GdB has been to targeted locations throughout the county to Collect GPS positions on over 3,000 manholes and updated attribute information on those manholes and pipes. The new field data was then incorporated into GIS.
