Overview

GdB was contracted by Keeler Construction Co., Inc. to provide various Land Surveying services including Construction Layout as well as Machine Control Modeling.

Ontario County planned to improve the intersection of County Road 23, McIvor Road, and Fort Hill Road in the Town of Phelps. The current two-way stop-controlled intersection was converted into a roundabout with the conversion of the existing triangular intersection at Fort Hill Road being converted into a tee-intersection.

Once the pre-design process was complete, GdB started our work on site by recovering and verifying existing survey control and benchmarks. We set additional control and a base post that was needed to complete a site calibration for the future machine control model. We also located key tie in points where the design would meet existing features. Our expert field crews performed Construction Layout for proposed drainage structures, curbing, concrete aprons, light poles and all proposed easements.

GdB Value

GdB built a 3D Machine Control model based on the approved design. We integrated PDF plans and CAD files provided by the engineer to QA/QC the design, which helped to identify potential areas for redesign prior to the start of construction. Our deliverables were a 3D surface file of the design, 2D linework for non-gravity dependent utilities and 3D linework of proposed storm drain piping, edge of pavement, and other contractor requested constructible break lines. These files were then uploaded into Keelers GPS controlled equipment and rovers, in the format required by their GPS manufacturer.
