Overview

GdB Geospatial LS, P.C. (GdB) was contracted by McFarland Johnson to provide Building Information Modeling (BIM) at the Buffalo Niagara International Airport Arrival and Departure Areas. For this effort, GdB began with a 3D, georeferenced point cloud previously captured on site by the client. GdB’s role for this project was to process and develop a complete BIM model of the facility. BIM Modeling was completed for the exterior of both the Arrival and Departure areas, as well as the parking garage of the Airport. No interior modeling was included as per the client’s provided specification. Both the upper and lower levels of the arrival/departure area was modeled, including vertical features not included in the survey surface model (building facades, top and underside of the viaduct, columns and beams, railings and barriers, etc.) Only features visible in the provided point cloud were modeled, no records were referenced to add features not visible. Additional features from records were added as requested when
supporting records were provided.

GdB Value

For our modeling tasks, GdB also created custom parametric families for items not provided by the manufacture or the client to properly model all features. Based on conversations and specifications from the client, Building Information Modeling for this task was prepared to Level of Development (LOD) greater than 200, but less than LOD 300.
